How To Sign Up Your Baby For TennCare

Important! Here's how to make sure your baby gets on TennCare:

  • After your baby is born, the hospital will give you papers to get a Social Security number for your baby. Fill out those papers and mail them to the Social Security office. Some hospitals will submit papers for you when the baby is born.

Eligibility

How do I know if I can get TennCare?

In order to be eligible for TennCare as a new applicant, you must first qualify for TennCare Medicaid.

  • Go to the Health Insurance Marketplace at [www.healthcare.gov]. You can find a computer to use to apply at your local Department of Human Services office.
  • Or call the Health Insurance Marketplace at 1-800-318-2596 (Toll-free).
  • For more information about TennCare Medicaid go to [http://www.tn.gov/tenncare/mem-eligibility.shtml].

It is important to do these things before your baby is one month old, because your baby is only covered under your insurance for 30 days.
