Where to go for care

If you’re injured or not feeling well, it can be hard to decide where to go for care. That’s why we created this guide. It helps explain when to go to the ER and when to go to your primary care provider (PCP) or an urgent care center.

Get the most out of your doctor visits

Before your visit:

Get your appointment on the calendar. For regular checkups, you should be able to schedule your doctor visit within three weeks or sooner. For sick visits and urgent care, you should be able to set up a visit within 48 hours. Having trouble scheduling your visit? Need some extra help? Give us a call.
Make a list of questions you have.
Take your medicine with you. This includes over-the-counter drugs, vitamins and herbs.
Try to arrive a few minutes early. This will help you get there on time in case you run into any delays.

Once you’re there:

Be honest about your symptoms or problems.
Make sure your doctor has answered all your questions and you understand your treatment. Ask follow-up questions if you need to.
If your doctor prescribes you or your child medicine, ask what it’s for, what it should do for you and what side effects you may have.
Take notes.
Tell them about other providers you’ve seen — like urgent care, the ER or specialists.
