Personalized, one-on-one maternity support

Each pregnancy is different. You can count on your care team for support at every step of your pregnancy.

Our free maternity program gives you access to your own team of nurses, health navigators, social workers, health educators, dietitians, mental health specialists and pharmacy specialists. We can work with you over the phone. Or we can connect online through CareTN*, our free mobile app.

MATERNITY CARE

A quick look at your benefits

Your health plan includes benefits you can use during your pregnancy and after. Here are some of the maternity and postpartum benefits our members use most.

Health coverage

Your maternity health coverage continues for 12 months after delivery. Your baby will also need health care coverage before leaving the hospital. Prepare now by going to TennCare Connect to see what you’ll need to do to get your baby covered.

Breast pump

You can get an electric breast pump at no cost to you. You’ll need a prescription from your doctor first. Then, you can order your pump online. Just go to aeroflowbreastpumps.com. If you have questions, give us a call at 1-800-468-9698.

Lactation support

Lactation consultants can help you decide if you want to breastfeed. They’ll work with you while you’re pregnant to help you prepare to nurse. And they’ll help you start and continue nursing after your baby arrives. Talk to your doctor to learn more. Or find a consultant here.

Dental care

It's important to keep up with your regular dental screenings and cleanings while you re pregnant. Make sure to tell your dentist you’re pregnant. They’ll make sure all procedures are safe for you and your baby. Your benefits cover most dental care at no cost to BlueCare and TennCareSelect members.

Diaper benefit

You can get up to 100 diapers each month for children under 2 at no cost to you. Your prescription plan covers this diaper benefit. You can pick them up at a participating pharmacy. For full details, go to TN.gov/TennCare/diapers.

Free maternity program

Download our free CareTN app, and you’ll have your own care team to work with from baby bump to after delivery. Plus, you can earn gift cards just for using our CareTN app to participate in our maternity program. Connect with us by phone or in the app.

GIFT CARDS

You can earn gift cards just for using our CareTN app to participate in our maternity program.

$10 for enrolling in the maternity program through the CareTN app
$10 for completing 15+ check-ins
$25 for being in the maternity program through the CareTN app and getting your postpartum visit 7–84 days after delivery

Gift card requirements
You need to enroll within 30 days of giving birth to be eligible for a gift card. To be eligible for the postpartum visit gift card, you need to have your postpartum visit between 7 and 84 days after giving birth. Medicaid (TennCare^SM) or CoverKids must be your primary insurance. You must be eligible on the date you complete each part of the maternity program and at the time the gift card is sent. You’ll get the gift card(s) within 60 days after you complete each part of the program or claim received and processed. Gift cards must be used within six months of receipt.

If you’re pregnant, you might feel excited, nervous or both. But getting the care you need and knowing what resources are available to you can help make this time a little easier. Explore the sections below to learn more. And contact our care team to ask questions and get extra support.

Prenatal support
Prenatal care is important for both your health and your baby’s. And every pregnancy is different. You should schedule an appointment with a doctor who specializes in pregnancy care as soon as you find out that you’re pregnant. Or start seeing them as soon as you have coverage with us. Your doctor will let you know how often you should make appointments during your pregnancy. We can help you find a doctor, schedule your visits and get transportation to the doctor if you need it. We can also help walk you through what to expect.

Pregnancy is an important time. But you and your baby will also need lots of care after delivery. You can depend on us for information about taking care of you.

Care for your baby
Your baby needs to see their doctor many times in their first year. We can help you find a pediatrician and set up those appointments for you. From safe sleep advice to soothing their tears, our baby guide is here to help.

Care for you
Taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your baby. Your body goes through a lot of stress and changes during pregnancy. It takes some time for you to fully recover. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends you talk with your OB-GYN within three weeks of giving birth. You should have a full postpartum checkup within 12 weeks. And based on your health, your doctor may want to see you more often.
It’s important to see your primary care provider (PCP) as well as your OB-GYN. Your PCP can help you manage any long term conditions and connect you with any specialists you need. They can also tell you about any care you need.

More than the baby blues
It’s normal to feel sad, restless or moody in those first days after your baby is born. This is often called the baby blues. And it usually goes away on its own.
But if you’re feeling anxious or depressed for longer than two weeks, having scary thoughts or feeling like you’re unable to care for your baby, you may have postpartum depression. Postpartum depression is common. But unlike the baby blues, you may need treatment to feel better.
Tell your doctor what you’re feeling. Try to be as honest as possible. And don’t forget to lean on your care team for support. We can help answer your questions, set up your doctor visits and connect you with a mental health specialist, if needed.
You can also get free help 24/7 from the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline. Just call or text 1-833-9-HELP4MOMS to talk with a counselor in English or Spanish. And remember, your call is private.
