Each pregnancy is different. So you can count on your care team for support at every step of your pregnancy. This program doesn’t replace your doctor’s advice. Your care team will:
- Review your health history to spot any issues
- Give you health tips by phone, text and email
- Help you, your doctor and your other health care providers work together
- Connect you to agencies that provide other services
- Give extra support if you’re high risk for an early delivery or you’re having problems
If you’re pregnant and haven’t connected with us yet, give us a call.

Taking care at every step of your journey
It’s important to see your provider throughout your pregnancy. Your CoverKids plan covers all medically necessary services. Before birth, and after your baby arrives. And you don’t need a referral.
Just contact us. We’ll help schedule your checkups.
Before you give birth
Prenatal visits help ensure the health of you and your baby. How often you need to visit depends on your age, health and how your pregnancy is going. Follow your provider’s advice. Here’s the schedule of prenatal care for most moms-to-be:
First three months: At least one visit that will include a full physical exam, screenings and tests
Second three months: One visit a month with some tests as needed
Final three months: Every two weeks from week 30 to 36, then at least every week until you give birth
After your baby arrives
Seeing your provider after you give birth is just as important. Your provider will likely want you to visit up to 60 days after you leave the hospital. It can be a good time to ask questions and talk about how things are going.
Call your provider right away if you have problems like heavy bleeding. And if you’re feeling a little down, you may have a serious condition called postpartum depression. But we can help.

Your newborn’s coverage
Your baby will also need health care coverage before leaving the hospital. So you’ll want to start the process soon after you give birth. Here’s what you should do to find a health plan for you baby:
- Prepare now by going to TennCare Connect to see what you’ll need to do after the baby comes.
- Apply for coverage while you’re in the hospital. You might want to ask someone who’ll be with you to take care of this. Make sure they have the info they’ll need.
- You or your helper should go online at TennCare Connect to sign the baby up.
- Also at the hospital, fill out papers for your baby’s Social Security number. Hospital staff will help you with this.
- To complete the process, visit TennCare Connect again when your baby’s Social Security card comes in the mail.
